Wade and Lucky

This is Wade, and our nickname for him is The Turkey Whisperer.

Last year, my boyfriend and I (Wade) bought 15 Wild Turkeys from Dirt Willy farm in Edmonton. We wanted to 'raise' Wild Turkeys. Ever since last year it has been quite the adventure.

Starting out with 15, we built them a 5 star turkey coop and kept them well fed, hydrated and warm throughout the cold winter at their new home just outside of Cochrane, Alberta.

When the spring and summer came around the eggs started to lay. Soon enough we were incubating eggs in the garage and helping them to hatch in the safety of our garage.

Now that was a full time job, checking on them in the middle of the night, losing a couple which was heartbreaking. But for the most part, watching them thrive and grow.

Once they were old enough, we put the new babies out in the coop and let some of the older Turkeys out in the wild, where they are very happy these days.

So here is a picture of Wade and the first Turkey we hatched...her name is "Lucky."

Wonderful Story!

How wonderful that you are raising turkeys to release into the wild. They are such interesting birds and each has their own personality.

Good Luck to you and all of the birds.
