Rare and Unusual Circular Barns

Round barns had several advantages for farmers of early America. They were simpler and cheaper to built, with more space efficiency than a four-sided barn. The silo was often located in the center.

Round barns were never as popular as other barn types, but their unusual shape makes them stand out. The years from 1880–1920 were the height of round barn construction in America.

Some round barns are being restored and preserved but many old barns are deteriorating and falling apart. Round barn pictures help preserve these rare and interesting buildings for future generations.
