When we moved to a rural area, one of the things I was most excited about, aside from getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city, was planting my own garden.
I had never had more than a window box before and I was dead set on not only planting a garden, but planting things that were outside of the norm for most backyard gardeners.
One of the ideas I had was to plant okra... despite never having even eaten okra before in my life. I certainly wasn't aware of how it grew or how it looked when it flowered. Imagine my surprise when I went to visit my garden and found this beauty.
It was just one of the many wonderful surprises that my first garden gave me that year... including the surprise that though okra is a beautiful plant, I don't care to eat any part of it!
I never had Okra til I moved to the south! I fell in love with the plant and flower it produced. Simply gorgeous! I have a few pics of my own of this flower.
