The blue jay is a common sight in the country and in backyards in the eastern half of North America. Blue jay's are a common visitor at the feeder all winter long. For this reason, many blue jay photos you see were taken in snowy weather.
Blue jays seem to like being around people. They're often seen around country homes and the picturesque red barns, especially if there is seed around. They can be found in residential backyards, too!

Blue jays are fun to watch and photograph, especially when teaching their babies to fly.
The blue jay's call sounds like: "Jay! Jay!" But this is only one of a wide variety of sounds the bird makes. It can also make excellent imitations of various hawk calls.
They tend to be aggressive around other birds, dominating food and space. They are omnivorous, eating both seeds and plants and small insects and other invertebrates.

A blue jay can be a loud bird! They tend to "screech", especially in territorial disputes, and can also mimic other birds sounds. The racket makes noisy alarms against predators to themselves and other birds.
A crest of feathers on the back of their head forms a point, which is a unique characteristic of the blue jay in addition to their blue coloring. They express their mood with crest--it raises when they are frightened or upset.

While not as pesky as crows in eating seeds in the field, they sometimes will find a snack there. They eat seeds, nuts and sometimes fruit. Their favorite food is acorns.
They provide a delight to the eye, and entertainment to the heart. Pictures can help you remember all the fun of watching them. Photos of these birds also show what they are like to other people who may not be so fortunate as to have blue jays living in their region. Blue Jay pictures are always fun to view.
