Apple pie... it's one of the historical symbols of rural America. It brings to mind family, wholesomeness, comfort and all that is great about living in the country.

Apple trees were common on farms. Autumn time meant a fresh apple harvest to be picked from the orchard. Apples stored in the cellar lasted through the winter months. So the pies were made with apples, a readily available fruit, perfect for desserts year round.
