110 Year Old Barn The Old Farm
This is the first barn my farm ever knew. Built in 1890. This farm was bought in 1953. The cement block part was built in 1946. I restored the barn in 2002 to keep it from falling in.
My wife Betty and Myself did all the work ourselves I had owned the farm 49 years and took it on as a summer project I just retired from Ford Motor Co with a job in Product Development So what a project it was.
I used about 200 lbs of nails or more and 4 spikes inch by the 25 lb box. We used a lot of 2x4's and 2x6's in the beefing up of the old barn the roof boards were bad and where rotted out we replaced them with other old pine barn lumber then sheeted with O.S.B. board. And finished the job with Red and White steel.
We started on May 16, 2002 and called it finished November 10, 2002. We live in Sandusky, Michigan. 25 miles from the old farm. The barn is located 3 and 1/2 miles west of Forestville, Michigan. The road is very crocket as it follows the old Forestville creek. It is in Deaware Twp of Sanilac Co. The Farm Barn is on Bay City Forestville Rd. Minden City, Michigan.
